Hong Kong's Labor Chief Emphasizes Imported Talent to Boost Economy and Create Jobs
Hong Kong is actively pursuing a strategy to attract global professionals as part of its economic expansion efforts. At the HK International Talents Career Expo, Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun Yuk-han clarified that the initiative is not intended to replace the local workforce but to create new opportunities for local graduates. The government aims to bring in external expertise to expand the city's economy by introducing new capital, innovative technologies, and fresh perspectives. This approach is expected to pioneer new industrial sectors, generating more job vacancies for the local labor market. Since the launch of this campaign in late 2022, Hong Kong has been ranked first in Asia and fourth globally in talent competitiveness. The labor chief attributes the city's appeal to its institutional strengths, including the One Country Two Systems framework and its strategic position backed by mainland China.
