U.S. Ambassador to NATO Announces Delay in Joint Missile Production Agreement with Ukraine
Matthew Whitaker, the U.S. Ambassador to NATO, has announced that the agreement for joint production of Patriot missile interceptors with Ukraine is unlikely to be finalized before winter. Despite ongoing negotiations, the focus remains on ensuring Ukraine is equipped with air defense systems before the winter season. Whitaker emphasized the importance of either allies providing surplus missiles or increasing production at American facilities. The ambassador also mentioned other potential collaborative production opportunities with Ukraine and the European Union, with work continuing on some agreements. This development follows previous discussions at a NATO summit in Ankara, where the U.S. expressed willingness to grant Ukraine a license for missile production.
