DENR Halts Mining Exploration in Zambales Over Compliance Issues
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in the Philippines has ordered the cessation of mining exploration activities by Fortuna Mining Corporation in Zambales. The decision was made due to the company's failure to comply with transparency and consultation requirements as mandated by DENR Administrative Order No. 2025-17. The order requires mining firms to provide proof of consultation and endorsement by local government units and secure certification from the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) before conducting exploration. The DENR's Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) found that Fortuna had not met these conditions, leading to the issuance of a cease-and-desist order.
