Bangor City Council Intervenes in PCHC Property Sale, Citing Right of First Refusal
The City of Bangor has exercised its right of first refusal to halt the planned sale of a property by Penobscot Community Health Care (PCHC) to Northeast Pain Management. The property, located at 103 Maine Avenue, currently serves as an administrative building for PCHC. The city's intervention occurred just days before the sale was scheduled to close. PCHC had initiated talks to sell the property earlier this year, with the sale price to Northeast Pain Management set at $1.35 million. The city stated that it retained a right of first refusal when it sold the property to PCHC in 2009. PCHC is currently facing significant financial challenges and is working to secure $3 million in funding to avoid bankruptcy. The proceeds from the sale were intended to address immediate operational needs, including vendor payments and support for patient care.
