FEMA Provides Federal Disaster Aid to Washington Following December Storms
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced the availability of federal disaster assistance for Washington state in response to severe weather events that occurred in December 2025. These events included storms, straight-line winds, flooding, landslides, and mudslides, affecting numerous counties and tribal communities. The presidential disaster declaration enables federal funding for individuals in counties such as Chelan, Grays Harbor, King, Lewis, Pacific, Pierce, Skagit, Snohomish, Thurston, and Whatcom. The aid includes grants for temporary housing, home repairs, and low-cost loans for uninsured property losses. Public Assistance funding is also available for state, tribal, and local governments, as well as certain nonprofits, to support emergency work and repair damaged facilities. John F. Harrison has been appointed as the federal coordinating officer for recovery operations.
