Search Underway for Missing Crew After Typhoon Capsizes Ship Near Northern Marianas
A search operation is currently underway in the Pacific Ocean near the Northern Mariana Islands for six crew members of a cargo ship that capsized during Typhoon Sinlaku. The U.S. Coast Guard, along with international partners from Guam, Japan, and New Zealand, is leading the efforts. The cargo ship, named Mariana, was confirmed overturned by an HC-130 Hercules crew from the U.S. Air Force 31st Rescue Squadron. The ship suffered engine failure as the typhoon approached, leading to its capsizing. Debris, including a partially submerged life raft, has been found approximately 110 miles northeast of the overturned vessel. The search area has covered over 99,000 square miles, but the crew members remain missing.
