Leonardo DiCaprio and Bezos Earth Fund Launch $200 Million Initiative to Save Endangered Species
Leonardo DiCaprio, through his organization Re:wild, and the Bezos Earth Fund have launched the Phoenix Species Project, a $200 million initiative aimed at recovering 100 of the world's most critically endangered species. This project, described as the largest single philanthropic effort dedicated to endangered species recovery, will focus on species that are crucial to their ecosystems. The initiative will involve collaboration with Indigenous Peoples, scientists, and conservationists across 30 countries. The funding, split equally between the Bezos Earth Fund and Re:wild, will support multi-year recovery efforts, with progress reports on population recovery and threat reduction to be shared online.
