MHI Enforces Stricter Localisation Norms for EV Truck Components
The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has announced amendments to the PM E-DRIVE Phased Manufacturing Programme, mandating increased localisation for electric vehicle (EV) truck components. Starting September 1, 2026, the manufacturing of Battery Management Systems (BMS) must be fully domestic, with imports allowed only until August 31, 2026. Similarly, DC-DC converters and Vehicle Control Units (VCUs) will follow a phased localisation roadmap, requiring domestic assembly of electronic components and semiconductors by September 2026. These changes are part of a broader initiative to reduce import dependence and strengthen the domestic supply chain for electric mobility.
