U.S. Universities Adopt PayPal and Venmo for Tuition Payments
Several U.S. universities are now offering students and their families the option to pay tuition using PayPal and Venmo. Institutions such as Bellarmine University, Butler University, Kansas State University, Michigan State University, and Texas Tech University are among the first to implement these digital payment methods, with more universities expected to follow. This integration is facilitated through existing campus payment platforms like Illumia, Nelnet Campus Commerce, and TouchNet. While these new payment options provide flexibility, students and families may incur transaction or processing fees, which vary depending on the university and the funding method chosen. PayPal and Venmo have been actively expanding their presence in higher education, including offering student-athletes opportunities to receive institutional revenue-share payments and engaging in NIL partnerships.
