Maine Heat Wave: National Weather Service Reports Heat Index Over 100 Degrees
The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for much of Maine, predicting that the heat index would approach or exceed 100 degrees. This advisory covered areas from Kittery to Millinocket, sparing only higher elevations in western Maine. On Friday, the heat index reached 105 degrees in Bath and 104 in Denmark, Old Orchard Beach, and Windham. The Portland area recorded a heat index of 96 degrees. Actual temperatures ranged from the high 80s to mid-90s. The advisory expired for some counties by 6 p.m. but remained in effect until 8 p.m. for others. The heat is expected to persist into Saturday, with overnight lows in the high 60s and low 70s.
