Senator Capito Evaluates Key Bridge Rebuild Amid Rising Costs
Senator Shelley Moore Capito, chair of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, recently visited the Francis Scott Key Bridge rebuild site in Baltimore, Maryland. The visit, which included Maryland Governor Wes Moore and other officials, was aimed at assessing the project's progress and addressing concerns over escalating costs. The bridge, which partially collapsed in March 2024 after being struck by a container ship, is undergoing reconstruction with costs now projected to reach $4 to $5 billion. Capito emphasized the need for transparency in the process and questioned the rising expenses. Despite the financial concerns, Capito and other lawmakers remain supportive of the project, citing its national significance and the importance of timely completion.
