DC Reaches Average Annual 90-Degree Days with More Heat Expected
Washington, D.C. has officially reached its 40th day of temperatures at or above 90°F (32.2°C) this year, matching the seasonal average based on National Weather Service data from 1991-2020. This milestone was achieved on Monday, August 10, 2026, shortly before 1 p.m. at Reagan National Airport. The ongoing heat wave is the sixth of the year, and with the average last 90-degree day occurring around mid-September, the total count is expected to rise. Nearby areas, including Fredericksburg and Baltimore, are also experiencing elevated counts of 90-degree days, with Fredericksburg already at 49 days and Baltimore at 38. The heat is being influenced by a Bermuda high-pressure system and global warming trends, potentially extending the hot season further into the year.
