Boox e-readers are gaining significant popularity on BookTok, distinguishing themselves from traditional e-readers like Kindle and Kobo. Manufactured by Onyx International, a Chinese technology company, Boox devices are essentially e-ink tablets that run on an Android operating system. This allows users to access any app from the Google Play Store, making it possible to read books from various platforms and update social reading apps like Storygraph or Goodreads directly on the device. The Palma Pro 2, in particular, has attracted interest for its compact size. Unlike the closed systems of Kindle or Kobo, Boox offers greater versatility, though this also means it can introduce more distractions due to broader app access. Despite being e-ink tablets, their computing power is not as robust as smartphones, limiting the extent of potential distractions.
