U.S. Representative Steve Womack Supports Federal Funding and Private Donations for Lake Wedington Restoration
U.S. Representative Steve Womack recently toured the Lake Wedington Recreation Area in Washington County, Arkansas, and expressed optimism about its full restoration. The recreation area, which includes a 102-acre lake and 424 acres of land, has been in need of significant repairs, estimated to cost around $20 million. Currently, $4.7 million in federal funding has been allocated for water utility work. Womack indicated that more federal appropriations are expected over the coming years. He also highlighted the potential for private donations to accelerate the restoration process, though legal questions regarding the mechanism for such donations are still being addressed. The site, originally developed in the 1930s by the Works Program Administration and turned over to the U.S. Forest Service in 1954, has seen limited use since 2019 due to its deteriorating infrastructure.
