White House Campaigns for Veterans to Fill Trucking Gaps Amid License Crackdown
The Trump administration has launched a new initiative encouraging military veterans to become truck drivers, aiming to fill the void left by immigrant drivers who lost their licenses due to a recent crackdown. The campaign, part of a broader effort to assist veterans in transitioning to civilian jobs, allows those who have driven large military vehicles to bypass the skills test for a commercial driver's license (CDL). This move follows the cancellation of approximately 30,000 commercial licenses issued illegally or without proper verification of citizenship status. The Transportation Department has been enforcing English language requirements for truckers, leading to the removal of about 26,000 drivers from the roads. The initiative is supported by the trucking industry, which values the leadership and discipline veterans bring to the workforce.
