Philz Coffee Reinstates Pride Flag Policy After Backlash
Philz Coffee, a San Francisco-based chain, reversed its decision to remove Pride flags from its stores following significant backlash. CEO Mahesh Sadarangani apologized, acknowledging the importance of the Pride flag as a symbol of safety and belonging. The initial decision to remove the flags was framed as a move towards inclusivity, but it was met with swift opposition from employees and customers, resulting in a petition with over 7,300 signatures. The reversal was influenced by discussions with San Francisco Pride leaders and criticism from state senator Scott Wiener.
