Texas Suspends Data Center Grid Connections Due to Overwhelming Demand
Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has announced a moratorium on new power grid connections for data centers. This decision is driven by concerns over the potential strain on the Texas electric grid, which is facing unprecedented demand due to the rapid expansion of data centers. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has been tasked with auditing these projects to assess their impact on the grid and local communities. Texas, which has been aggressively promoting data center development, now faces challenges in managing the associated energy demands, which could double the state's current electricity demand by 2032.
