SCOTUSblog Co-Founder Sentenced to Prison for Tax and Mortgage Fraud
Thomas Goldstein, a prominent Supreme Court litigator and co-founder of SCOTUSblog, has been sentenced to six years in prison. Goldstein was convicted on charges of tax evasion and mortgage fraud. The case revealed his involvement in high-stakes poker games, where he failed to report his winnings on tax filings and misrepresented his financial status on loan applications. In addition to the prison sentence, Goldstein has been ordered to pay $3.1 million in restitution and will be on supervised release for five years following his prison term. The sentence is less than the eight years sought by prosecutors but exceeds the time Goldstein claims was offered during plea negotiations.
