Bangladesh's Agriculture Minister and IRRI Strengthen Partnership for Rice Innovation
Bangladesh's newly appointed Agriculture Minister, Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid, has announced a renewed focus on developing next-generation rice varieties in collaboration with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI). The partnership aims to enhance rice research and innovation, focusing on creating more nutritious and climate-resilient rice. The IRRI delegation, led by Dr. Humnath Bhandari, met with the Minister to discuss strategies for advancing Bangladesh's rice-based agri-food systems. The discussions highlighted the need for high-yielding, nutritious, and climate-smart rice varieties, as well as sustainable management of natural resources. The Minister emphasized the importance of continuing this collaboration to address challenges such as climate change and nutrition, while maintaining rice self-sufficiency.
