Lake Mead's Declining Water Levels Reveal Unidentified Homicide Victim, Sparking Speculation
The historically low water levels of Lake Mead in May 2022 led to the discovery of a barrel containing the decomposed body of a man at Hemenway Harbor. Detectives quickly determined the man was a homicide victim from the 1970s or 1980s, based on his clothing, which included worn jeans, velcro sneakers, and a silver Timex watch. The barrel had been perforated multiple times and submerged far from the shore, indicating an attempt to prevent recovery. The victim sustained a gunshot wound. This discovery, along with three other sets of human remains found in the following months, has fueled public speculation, particularly regarding potential ties to organized crime in Las Vegas.
