Indian American Community's Growing Civic and Business Influence on Display in Washington State
The Indian American community in Washington State is increasingly influencing civic life, moving from significant contributions in engineering to holding CEO positions, board seats, and elected offices. This shift was highlighted during India's 80th Independence Day celebration in Seattle, attended by numerous Indian American community members and tech CEOs. Washington Governor Bob Ferguson issued a statewide proclamation declaring August 15th as 'India Day,' with similar declarations from mayors of Seattle, Bellevue, Kent, and SeaTac, and the King County Council. U.S. Representatives Suzan DelBene and Marilyn Strickland also sent official messages.
