USDA Launches AI Initiative to Enhance Crop Innovation and Food Security
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is set to launch a new initiative aimed at accelerating crop innovation through the use of artificial intelligence (AI). This initiative, part of the Genesis Mission and coordinated by the Agriculture Advanced Research and Development Authority (AgARDA), will introduce the Agricultural National Science & Technology Challenge later this year. The challenge is designed to encourage innovators, researchers, universities, and technology experts to develop AI-powered tools that can efficiently analyze large volumes of plant data. By integrating various data sources such as images, field observations, and laboratory results, the initiative seeks to identify valuable plant and seed traits more quickly and accurately. This effort is expected to enhance the development of crops that are more productive, resilient, and better suited to future agricultural needs.
