Sheinbaum Proposes Renaming Historic Site to Honor Indigenous Peoples
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has proposed renaming the historic Paso de Cortés, located between the Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes, to 'Paso de los Pueblos Indígenas'. This proposal is part of a broader effort to honor indigenous communities and re-evaluate symbols of Spanish conquest. The announcement was made during a public event in Puebla, coinciding with the International Day of Indigenous Peoples. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts by the Mexican government to recognize and celebrate the contributions of indigenous peoples.
