Father and Daughter Pilots Share Unexpected Mid-Takeoff Exchange at Dulles Airport
A heartwarming and humorous interaction occurred at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) when a father and daughter, both commercial airline pilots, unexpectedly communicated over the same Air Traffic Control (ATC) frequency. The father, piloting United Airlines Flight 108, was preparing for takeoff when his daughter, flying CommutAir Flight 4977 (operating as a United Express regional flight), recognized his voice and called out 'Pops?' over the radio. The father, surprised, inquired about her location, to which she responded she was holding short of Runway 1R, nearby and ready for departure. The exchange quickly turned lighthearted, with another pilot on the frequency chiming in to commend the father and playfully interrogate the daughter about her living situation and cell phone plan. The daughter, in turn, humorously declared her single status, leading to laughter across the frequency.
