Spirit Airlines Halts Operations, Stranding Passengers and Raising Refund Concerns
Spirit Airlines has announced the cessation of all flights, effective immediately, following a failed government bailout and the company's inability to emerge from its second bankruptcy. This decision has left numerous passengers stranded, as the airline has also ceased customer service operations. In response, other U.S. carriers like American Airlines, United, Southwest, Delta, Allegiant, and Frontier have stepped in to offer support to affected passengers through fare caps and special fares. The U.S. Department of Transportation advises travelers to check with other airlines for potential ticket acceptance or discounts. Refunds for Spirit flights purchased with credit or debit cards will be processed automatically, but those who used other payment methods may face delays as their claims are handled through the bankruptcy court process.
