Experimental Lung Cancer Drug Ivonescimab Shows Promise in Chinese Trial, Raises Questions for Global Use
An experimental lung cancer drug, ivonescimab, developed by Akeso and Summit Therapeutics, has shown promising results in a late-stage trial conducted in China. The drug, when combined with chemotherapy, reduced the risk of death by 34% for patients with squamous non-small-cell lung cancer, extending survival by a median of four months compared to the standard treatment. This trial, known as Harmoni-6, was conducted exclusively in China, and the results were presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology's annual meeting. Ivonescimab is a bispecific antibody targeting PD-1 and VEGF, similar to existing cancer drugs Keytruda and Avastin. The trial's results have sparked debate within the oncology and investment communities about the drug's potential as a successor to Keytruda.
