Court Issues Administrative Stay on USCIS Policies Affecting Asylum Seekers
The U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts has issued an administrative stay on certain policies of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This decision, made on July 21, 2026, is part of the case Venez. Ass'n of Mass., et al. v. United States Citizenship and Immigration Services. The plaintiffs, representing individuals with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and pending asylum applications, filed an emergency motion against policies introduced under the Reconciliation Act of 2025, also known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The court's order temporarily halts specific sections of the July 2025 Federal Register Notice, March 2026 website update, and April 2026 Interim Final Rule. USCIS has stated it will comply with the court's order while further judicial proceedings are pending.
