Route 66 Centennial Caravan Begins Journey from Santa Monica to Chicago
A caravan of approximately 70 vehicles, including classic cars and trucks, gathered in Santa Monica to commence a 2,448-mile journey to Chicago in celebration of Route 66's 100th anniversary. The event, organized by the Route 66 Road Ahead Partnership, aims to raise awareness of the historic route and support independent businesses along the way. Participants, many of whom traveled from outside California, will traverse eight states over 20 days. The caravan includes a diverse array of vehicles, such as Model As, 1960 convertibles, and a 1964 Chevrolet Impala station wagon. The journey is designed to highlight the classic scenery and cultural significance of Route 66, often referred to as 'the Main Street of America.'
