U.S. Army Drills in Germany Adapt to Modern Drone Warfare Tactics from Ukraine
The U.S. Army is significantly altering its training exercises in Germany to incorporate lessons learned from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, particularly regarding drone warfare. During the annual Saber Junction exercise at the Hohenfels Training Area in Bavaria, approximately 1,900 drones were utilized to simulate a modern battlefield environment. This year's drills pitted the resident opposing force from the 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, against an invading coalition led by the Italy-based 173rd Mobile Brigade (Airborne). The opposing force's new Eerie Company, established in January, specializes in drones, reconnaissance, and electronic warfare, aiming to provide realistic training. Ukrainian drone experts observed and analyzed Eerie's performance, confirming the effectiveness of their tactics.
