Green Groups Urge Clarity on Emissions Trading and Energy Storage Policies
The Carbon Capture and Storage Association (CCSA), along with 50 other stakeholders, has called on EU and UK policymakers to clarify agreements on emissions trading ahead of an upcoming EU-UK Summit. The emissions trading system (ETS) is crucial as it caps emissions from carbon-intensive sectors, accounting for about 40% of the EU's greenhouse gas emissions. The CCSA emphasizes the need for regulatory certainty to advance cross-border carbon capture and storage projects. Additionally, green technology groups are urging the European Commission to promote long-duration energy storage (LDES) to support the EU's clean energy goals. These groups argue that LDES can provide secure and affordable energy systems, essential for balancing power systems as industries move towards electrification.
