EU Digital Product Passport Initiative to Enhance Product Traceability
The European Union is set to implement the Digital Product Passport (DPP) under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), requiring products sold in the EU to carry a machine-readable record detailing their lifecycle. This initiative aims to standardize traceability across various industries, including electronics, textiles, and automotive sectors. The DPP will include information on a product's origin, materials, environmental impact, and compliance, accessible via a QR code. The regulation mandates that batteries must have a passport by February 2027, with plans to extend this requirement to other product categories.
