Argentina's Economy Faces High Costs in Key Sectors Compared to Latin America
Argentina has been identified as the most expensive country in Latin America for several consumer sectors, according to a report by Fundar. The Price Level Index, a metric from the World Bank's International Comparison Program, shows that Argentina's prices in restaurants, clothing, communications, recreation, home equipment, and transportation are higher than the regional average. Conversely, the country is cheaper in food, education, housing and services, alcohol and tobacco, and health. The report highlights that in May, Argentina's inflation in pesos was 2.1%, with the official exchange rate moving by 1.1%, leading to a 1% increase in dollar terms. Over the past year, Argentina has become 7% cheaper in dollars compared to the regional average, with clothing seeing the most significant price drop.
