Tampa Bay Area Faces Ongoing Drought Despite Recent Rainfall
The Tampa Bay area is experiencing a significant drought despite recent rainfall that has helped refill local reservoirs. According to FOX 13 meteorologists, the region is still facing a substantial rainfall deficit, with Sarasota County nearly a foot behind and Tampa about three inches behind. Tampa Bay Water, which supplies drinking water to several counties and cities, relies on groundwater, a desalination plant, and surface water from local river systems. Due to the drought, river levels have fallen, forcing reliance on groundwater. Recent rains have allowed some water to be added back to the regional reservoir, which currently holds just over 2 billion gallons, with a target of 15 billion gallons by October.
