Short-Haul Flights Gain Popularity in Germany Amid Environmental Concerns
Short-haul flights are becoming increasingly popular in Germany, with nearly 50% of flights from major airports covering distances up to 1,000 kilometers. In 2025, these flights accounted for 45% of the 1.5 million scheduled flights. Most of these flights connect Germany with nearby European countries, with Frankfurt/Main being a major hub. However, early 2026 saw a slight decline in short-haul flights due to worker strikes at Lufthansa. Despite environmental concerns over emissions from short flights, demand remains high.
