McAllen Law Firm Faces Lawsuit Over Alleged Barratry Scheme Targeting Grieving Families
A lawsuit has been filed against the Almaraz Law Firm in McAllen, Texas, accusing it of engaging in barratry, commonly known as 'ambulance chasing.' The lawsuit, filed in March 2026 in Cameron County, alleges that employees of the firm, under the guise of a fraudulent non-profit organization called 'TX Community Partners,' attempted to solicit the family of Lorenzo Guajardo Jr., who died in a car crash in April 2025. The lawsuit claims that the employees used deceptive practices, including offering to cover funeral expenses and sending links to the law firm's website, to recruit the family as clients. One employee, Heberto Lopez, was indicted on a barratry charge in November 2025. The lawsuit seeks $750,000 in damages and a jury trial.
