Unite Here Local 11 Endorses Nithya Raman in Los Angeles Mayoral Race, Boosting Campaign Against Incumbent Bass
Los Angeles mayoral challenger Nithya Raman has secured a significant endorsement from Unite Here Local 11, a powerful union representing hospitality workers. This endorsement comes despite incumbent Mayor Karen Bass having the backing of most other major unions in the city. Unite Here Local 11's President Kurt Petersen cited Raman's commitment to addressing the housing crisis, supporting the minimum wage hike for hotel and airport workers, and opposing short-term rental giant Airbnb as key reasons for their decision. The union has a strong track record of political activism, including successfully advocating for a $30 hourly minimum wage for hospitality workers, a measure that Mayor Bass had supported delaying.
