Warren County Implements New Phishing Policy Following $3.3 Million Fraud Incident
Warren County is set to implement a comprehensive computer use policy aimed at preventing phishing scams, following a December incident where the county lost over $3.3 million due to fraudulent electronic payments. The policy, developed by the Risk and Safety Committee, includes guidelines for identifying, preventing, and reporting phishing scams. It emphasizes email security measures, such as verifying unexpected content from trusted sources and recognizing phishing indicators like grammar mistakes and urgent requests. The policy also mandates reporting suspicious emails to the IT Department, which will investigate and resolve phishing attacks. The initiative aims to enhance the county's cybersecurity infrastructure and prevent future incidents.
