OMA and Y.A. Studio Complete 160-Unit Affordable Housing Development in San Francisco
OMA and San Francisco-based Y.A. Studio have finished construction on 730 Stanyan, a 160-unit affordable housing development located next to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighborhood. This project marks OMA’s first completed 100% affordable housing development in the United States. The 1.9-million-square-foot mixed-use development was delivered for the Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation and Chinatown Community Development Center. The apartments are permanently affordable and are designated for low-income families, formerly unhoused families, and Transitional Age Youth. The eight-story building, situated on a former fast-food site at Haight and Stanyan Streets, is designed with volumes that respond to the scale of the surrounding neighborhood, featuring four-story sections facing Haight and Waller Streets and an eight-story central volume shaped around courtyards and terraces.
