Final Two Defendants Arraigned in Nebraska Petition Fraud Case Involving Over 13,300 Flagged Signatures
Nathan Kirschbaum and Jason Luciano, both 32, have been arraigned in Lancaster County court, becoming the final two of six defendants to appear in connection with a Nebraska petition fraud investigation. Each faces two counts of false swearing to a circulator's affidavit. The case stems from petitions submitted by the Good Government Lincoln project, which sought three amendments to Lincoln's city charter, including term limits for City Council members, changes to election years, and expanded voting eligibility. Election officials flagged over 13,300 signatures from the initial submission as suspected fraudulent and referred them to law enforcement. Nebraska law requires circulators to swear under oath that each signer personally signed in their presence, that the date is correct, and that the signer is qualified. False swearing to a circulator's affidavit is a felony. The criminal investigation is ongoing and has expanded beyond the initial Lincoln petitions to include statewide ballot initiatives.
