ECOWAS Ministers Adopt Regional Policies on Sports, Youth, and Volunteering
The Ministers of Youth and Sports from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have adopted new regional policies focused on sports, youth, and volunteering. This decision was made during a ministerial meeting held in Dakar on July 30-31, 2026. The policies include the ECOWAS Sports Policy and its Strategic Action Plan for 2026-2035, the ECOWAS Youth Policy with its Strategic Action Plan for 2026-2035, and the ECOWAS Volunteer Programme Strategic Policy Document. These initiatives aim to provide a harmonized framework for member states to promote sports development, youth empowerment, employability, entrepreneurship, and social cohesion through regional integration. The ministers emphasized the importance of these policies in achieving peace, stability, and sustainable development in West Africa.
