French National Assembly Passes Bill Requiring Disclosure of Self-Custody Crypto Wallets
The French National Assembly has passed a bill mandating that individuals disclose self-hosted cryptocurrency wallets holding over €5,000 to the DGFIP, France's national tax authority. This measure is part of a broader anti-fraud initiative aimed at increasing transparency and control over digital assets. Despite opposition from Deputy Daniel Labaronne, who argued that the DGFIP lacks the tools to verify ownership of these assets, the motion to suppress the article was defeated. The DGFIP has expressed concerns about the security implications of centralizing sensitive data, warning that such information could become a target for hackers, given the prevalence of cyberattacks on large databases.
