Tropical Storm Moke Brings Heavy Rain to Hurricane-Stricken Hawaii
Tropical Storm Moke is currently moving past Hawaii, bringing heavy rainfall to areas already impacted by Hurricane Lala. As of Sunday, August 23, 2026, the storm's center was located approximately 320 miles (515 kilometers) south-southwest of Hilo, Hawaii, with sustained winds of 40 mph (65 kph). The National Hurricane Center forecasts up to 10 inches (25 centimeters) of rain across the Big Island, with isolated areas potentially receiving up to 15 inches (38 centimeters). This rainfall poses a significant risk of life-threatening flooding and mudslides, particularly in regions already affected by Hurricane Lala. The storm is expected to pass south of the Big Island later in the day and continue moving westward, south of the Hawaiian island chain.
