Ocean County Gas Station Owner Fined $17,500 for Deceptive Pump Pricing Practices
Rajinder Chandi, the owner of three gas stations in Ocean County, New Jersey, has agreed to pay a $17,500 penalty following an investigation into deceptive business practices. The investigation, conducted by the Ocean County Division of Weights & Measures and the Office of Consumer Protection, uncovered numerous violations of state Weights & Measures laws. Complaints from customers initiated the probe into the pricing practices at Chandi's stations: Delta on Route 37 in Toms River, Delta/G&R, LLC on Route 37 in Lakehurst, and Sunoco on Route 37 West in Toms River. The settlement requires Chandi to ensure that digital gas pump displays accurately reflect the price per gallon being charged to consumers. Additionally, he must use only state-licensed, certified vendors for pump repairs and comply with all state Weights & Measures and consumer protection laws.
