Multiple Wildfires Burn Across Southern California, Evacuations Ordered
Southern California is currently battling multiple wildfires, including the Sandy Fire in Ventura County, the Santa Rosa Island Fire, and several others. The Sandy Fire, which began on May 18, has burned 1,698 acres and is 15% contained. It has prompted evacuations and school closures in the region. The Santa Rosa Island Fire, the largest active wildfire in California, has consumed over 16,900 acres since May 15 and destroyed two historic structures. Other significant fires include the Bain Fire in Jurupa Valley (1,375 acres, 25% contained), the Verona Fire near Homeland (500 acres, 5% contained), and the Tusil Fire in eastern San Diego County (1,000 acres, 25% contained). The Burro Fire in Angeles National Forest has reached 30 acres and is 70% contained. Authorities are urging residents to follow evacuation orders and avoid fire zones.
