Senators Propose Amendment to Protect College Sports Act Amidst State Law Concerns
Senators Josh Hawley, Jim Banks, and Tommy Tuberville have introduced an amendment to the Protect College Sports Act, which is currently under consideration in the U.S. Senate. The amendment aims to ensure that the bill does not override state laws that ban biological men from participating in women's sports. This move comes as the Senate is preparing for a recess, with the bill needing to pass before the break. The amendment suggests changes to Section 121 of the bill, emphasizing the protection of state laws. The Protect College Sports Act, introduced by Senators Ted Cruz and Maria Cantwell, seeks to address issues related to college sports, including the eligibility of student-athletes. The bill has already advanced out of the Senate Commerce Committee and is awaiting a full Senate vote. However, the Congressional Black Caucus has expressed opposition, citing concerns about the impact on Black collegiate athletes and institutions.
