Father Warns Parents After Son Dies from Rare Disease During Vacation
A Colorado father, Viet Vu, is raising awareness about systemic capillary leak syndrome (SCLS) after his 5-year-old son, Justin, died from the rare condition during a family vacation in Oregon. SCLS, also known as Clarkson's disease, is a rare and severe condition where fluid leaks from capillaries, leading to sudden drops in blood pressure. The disease is particularly rare in children, with fewer than 500 cases reported globally since the 1960s. Justin fell ill suddenly, experiencing symptoms like stomachache and vomiting, which led to his hospitalization. Despite medical efforts, he passed away five days after being admitted. Vu emphasizes the importance of awareness, as the disease presents with non-specific symptoms that can be mistaken for infections.
