Massachusetts Bill Seeks Insurance Coverage for Wigs for Alopecia Patients
Heidi Bratt, a resident of Ipswich, Massachusetts, is advocating for a bill that would require insurance companies to cover the cost of wigs for individuals with alopecia areata. Bratt, who has been living with the condition since her teenage years, has been a long-time advocate for those affected by alopecia. The bill, House Bill 4552, aims to amend existing legislation to include coverage for wigs and facial hair prosthetics for alopecia patients, similar to the coverage provided for cancer and leukemia patients. The bill is currently under consideration by the Joint Committee on Health Care Financing.
