San Antonio River Authority Leads Cleanup Efforts After Heavy Rains Increase Pollution
The San Antonio River Authority has organized a series of cleanup efforts following recent heavy rains that have washed significant amounts of trash and pollutants into local waterways, including the San Antonio River's Mission Reach. Volunteers, known as River Warriors, have been actively participating in these cleanups, gathering along the riverbanks to remove litter. From May 2025 to May 2026, these efforts have resulted in the collection of 120,000 pounds of litter. The initiative is not only aimed at maintaining the aesthetic appeal of the river but also at improving water quality and protecting the natural habitat. The increased frequency of cleanups this year is attributed to the unusually high rainfall, which has been the most significant in a decade.
