Thunderstorms Disrupt Flights at Phoenix Sky Harbor
Widespread thunderstorms caused significant disruptions at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Tuesday morning. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), departures to Phoenix from airports within 1,200 nautical miles were delayed by an average of 37 minutes, with delays peaking at over 50 minutes during the 9 a.m. hour. As of 6:30 a.m., the Sky Harbor website reported 126 flight delays, while FlightAware listed 109 delays for flights into or out of Phoenix. By 10:15 a.m., the ground delay was no longer active, but delays persisted, with FlightAware reporting an increase to 166 affected flights. Flights across the western United States and as far east as Texas were impacted. A 6 a.m. American Airlines flight from Tucson to Phoenix was canceled. (Source: KTAR.com)
