Fire at Broadway's Eugene O'Neill Theatre Disrupts Area, Causes Substantial Damage
A fire broke out at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre on Broadway, New York, around 10 a.m. on Monday, quickly escalating to a three-alarm blaze. The fire originated in the electrical room between the fourth and fifth floors, according to FDNY Assistant Chief David Simms. Firefighters faced challenges due to the fire's deep-seated nature, which spread to an area between the fifth floor and the roof. One firefighter sustained a minor injury during the operation. The fire caused substantial damage to the electrical room, and the Department of Buildings is set to inspect the site. The incident led to significant disruption in the heavily trafficked area near 49th Street and Eighth Avenue. The theater, which has been home to the Tony Award-winning show 'The Book of Mormon' since 2011, was evacuated safely, and no performances were scheduled for Monday. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
